Jarretiere Bracelet

Platinum with cushion-cut rubies, round diamonds,
rectangular-cut diamonds, and baguette-cut diamonds

28

Like a ribbon of rubies and diamonds encircling the wrist, the “Jarretière” bracelet is one of Van Cleef & Arpels’ most renowned creations. It once belonged to the German actress Marlene Dietrich (1901-1992), nicknamed the “Blue Angel”. This sizable piece, inspired by Art Deco, displays a round and baguette-cut diamond motif, surrounded by a large disc set with 73 cushion-cut rubies. The three-dimensional structure, together with the exceptional ruby ensemble, imbues the piece with a striking aesthetic.

Marlene Dietrich was regularly photographed wearing this bracelet. She notably wore it in Alfred Hitchcock’s 1950 film Stage Fright, as well as at many social events and official ceremonies such as the 1951 Academy Awards.
