Unicorn clip
Yellow gold, white gold, silver, sapphires, rubies, diamonds
Since Antiquity, the unicorn has been described as a creature with a single pointed spiraling horn projecting from its forehead. It symbolizes purity and grace in the world's Western regions.
Created in the 1940s, these two clips illustrate the founding family's love of museums, because these jewels were directly inspired by a tapestry that hangs in the Cloisters Museum in New York. The tapestry is called The Hunt of the Unicorn and was embroidered between the end of the 15th and the beginning of the 16th century. It features a unicorn in a garden covered with thousands of colorful flowers.
These two clips ̶ one in yellow gold and platinum, and the other in yellow gold and silver ̶ reinterpret the subject of the tapestry in three dimensions. The two fantastical animals seem to be about to jump over blossoming flowers in sapphires and rubies. The floral motifs also echoing the flowers adorning the unicorns’ bodies.
The unicorn continues to inspire contemporary pieces, as attested to by the unicorn clip in the Noah's Ark High Jewelry collection launched by the Maison in 2016.
