Circle clip
White gold, rubies, diamonds
36
Created in the 1930s, the Circle clip – which you see here set with rubies and diamonds – illustrates the influence of Art Deco style on Van Cleef & Arpels’ creations. The Circle clip reflects a modernist trend, paying tribute to the revival of industry. Its round shape suggests speed and perpetual motion. Pieces of jewelry like this one, designed to be worn in various configurations depending on the wearer’s mood and environment, were very much in fashion at the time. A Van Cleef & Arpels catalogue from the 1930s describes the clip with a subtle dash of humor, as: “a circle with a magic clasp, perfect for adorning a hat, blouse or bag.”
